It's the same way in Dutch. I've only now realised that frogs don't quack in English...
In Dutch, however, we write it 'kwaken' (to quack) and 'kwaak!' (quack!) That is because we write things the way you're supposed to pronounce them. Some other languages *cough* ought to try that some time.
