Since hatam_soferet has a very pretty dogg, I had a go at sketching her (from a video that hatam_soferet put online) with my nice sepia-coloured ink and lovely drawing nib. Click to embiggen.

It seems rumours of my talents have been greatly exaggerated.

What I'd like is a version of the augmented reality app in which you point the camera on your 'phone at foreign text and it replaces it in situ with an English translation, for cuneiform.

(Of course, then I'd have to get a mobile 'phone with a camera to go with it...)

There was also some confusion with the Linear B - they had some latin in with the transliteration. It turns out the ideograms have Latin names - so in this case "VIR" refers to the ideogram for a man, and is not some unexpected Greek cognate.

My book uses vir and homo to distinguish the two words for "man" (zikaru (i.e. זָכָר) and amelu respectively). It's what the nineteenth-century scholars who worked it out would have been familiar with.

Oh, sure, but the text on the exhibit didn't make clear that the VIR wasn't being transcribed but was an atomic ideogram (𐂀). I think it should've been in square brackets or something, for the benefit of uninformed museum visitors like me.
